Feasibility of adaptive intentional islanding operation of electric utility systems with distributed generation

چکیده
As the process of deregulation of the electric utility industry proceeds, the importance of power quality is increasing. A fundamental aspect of power quality is the continuity of power supply that is the absence of momentary, temporary and sustained power interruptions. In this paper a network reconfiguration strategy is proposed which allows the distribution network to separate into a certain number of autonomous islands, supplied by local distributed generation, in case of permanent fault within the grid. Intentional islanding of portions of the grid is automatically carried out with an adaptive network reconfiguration depending upon the local generation/load state at the time of outage. © 2008 Elsevier B.V. Impact of intentional islanding of distributed generation on electricity market prices
The battle for electricity customers in an increasingly competitive and deregulated market environment is one of the challenges facing the electric power utilities of today. Customers expect a reliable and efficient supply of power from their utilities. One of the advantages that a distributed generator (DG) can provide to the electric utility and to customers is the possibility of improving th...
متن کاملControl of Grid-Connected and Intentional Islanding Operations of Photo Voltaic System
Existing control techniques for DG systems are designed to operate a system either in the connected or disconnected (islanding) mode to the utility; thus not allowing for both modes to be implemented and transitioned between. Existing detection and re-closure algorithms can also be improved upon. Dependent upon the method implemented, detection algorithms can either cause distortions in the out...
متن کاملRadial Basis Neural Network Based Islanding Detection in Distributed Generation
This article presents a Radial Basis Neural Network (RBNN) based islanding detection technique. Islanding detection and prevention is a mandatory requirement for grid-connected distributed generation (DG) systems. Several methods based on passive and active detection scheme have been proposed. While passive schemes have a large non detection zone (NDZ), concern has been raised on active method ...
متن کاملAn Intelligent Anti-Islanding Scheme for Synchronous-Based Distributed Generation Using Reduced-Noise Morphological Gradient
This paper presents a pattern recognition-based scheme for detection of islanding conditions in synchronous- based distributed generation (DG) systems. The main idea behind the proposed scheme is the use of spatial features of system parameters such as the frequency, magnitude of positive sequence voltage, etc. In this study, the system parameters sampled at the point of common coupling (PCC) w...
متن کاملGreen Energy Generation in Buildings: Grid-Tied Distributed Generation Systems (DGS) With Energy Storage Applications to Sustain the Smart Grid Transformation
The challenge of electricity distribution’s upgrade to incorporate new technologies is big, and electric utilities are mandated to work diligently on this agenda, thus making investments to ensure that current networks maintain their electricity supply commitments secure and reliable in face of disruptions and adverse environmental conditions from a variety of sources. The paper presents a new ...
